The presentation discusses the energy need of different accelerator concepts and applications and compares them to available technologies for energy production and storage. The talk summarises the historical development of Energy Recovery Linacs [ERLs], looks at options where ERLs can contribute to a reduction of the energy footprint of future collider projects and highlights R&D areas that could improve the ERL efficiency for future applications.
