Description

We first show that the topological charge of nonabelian gauge theory is not observable. This immediately leads to the resolution of the Strong CP problem, and also to the irrelevance of the anomalous breaking of the axial U(1) symmetry [1,2]. We then present a mechanism which resolves the axial U(1) problem without chiral anomaly, i.e. consistent with the Nambu-Goldstone nature of eta and eta' mesons [3].
