Description

“Lepton Flavor Violation: from the Precision to the Energy Frontier”

This manuscript summarizes a selection of my research activities from the past seven years on the theory and phenomenology of flavor physics in the quark and lepton sectors. Flavor physics observables are powerful indirect probes of New Physics effects since they are sensitive to energy scales going well above the reach of the direct searches at the LHC. Among flavor observables, those protected by accidental symmetries of the Standard Model (SM), such as Lepton Flavor Violating (LFV) decays, are theoretically appealing, as their observation would be an unambiguous signal of New Physics. In this manuscript, after briefly introducing flavor in the SM and the flavor problem, we will discuss the phenomenology of LFV processes using a general Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach. We will describe numerous low-energy processes in lepton and hadron decays using EFTs, as well as the high-energy tails of Drell-Yan processes, which receive energy-enhanced contributions from, e.g., four-fermion operators. Finally, we will explore several phenomenological implications of these results and discuss future directions, with particular emphasis on the complementarity of low- and high-energy searches, and the importance of Renormalization Group effects for deriving robust EFT constraints.
