Latest gravitational-wave results from LIGO, Virgo and KAGRA

Room: 200/0-Auditorium - Auditorium P. Lehmann Gravitational waves (GW) were first detected 10 years ago by the LIGO detectors, marking the beginning of a new era in astronomy. Since then, the international network of GW observatories comprised of LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA (LVK) has detected 218 signals from compact binary coalescences across four observing runs. The latest run, O4, started in May 2023 and is the longest to date. With more than 120 detections so far, O4 inaugurates an era of precision GW science. In this talk, I will present the main scientific results of the LVK collaboration from the first part of O4, whose data have been publicly released in August 2025. They include exceptional individual events, such as the most massive binary black hole merger ever observed; more precise constraints on population properties of compact objects with astrophysical and cosmological implications; and updated limits on GW emission scenarios from sources other than compact binary mergers, such as supernovae or isolated pulsars.
