Rubin alert brokers
From mid-2025, Rubin will send its full alert stream to seven brokers: they are the public interface to the LSST alert stream
● ALERCE, AMPEL, ANTARES, Babamul, Fink,
Lasair, Pitt-Google Serve a large scientific community by ingesting,
classifying, filtering, and redistributing alerts in real-time. Alert data is public. Classification is a community-driven effort.
All prototyping on ZTF (300k alerts/night), and test deployment of the Rubin Alert Distribution system
Roadmap(s)
On the science side, a huge potential for new discoveries, answering
important questions from solar system to galactic and cosmological
scales.
On the technical side, deployment of R&D and dissemination of new
technologies in the astronomy community
● Big data processing, AI (e.g. classification, human in the loop),
interface human-machine
● Focus on open science & open data
Challenge: how to connect the data provider and the (heterogeneous)
community of users? A true sociological problem! Global strategy: collaborating rather than competing
● Community did not exist before. Enforcing discussions &
interoperability
RBS programme
Fink School: For young researchers, to get familiar with Fink & new technologies.
Fink@World workshop: 1st global meeting of Fink users (scientists & engineers)
The Rubin Broker Hackathon: Hackathon including all broker technical teams.
