  of state (EOS) is an important quantity for the understanding of neutron 
 star structure\, neutron star mergers and core-collapse supernovae. Using 
 chiral effective field theory and many-body perturbation theory\, the low-
 density EOS becomes directly accessible from microscopic calculations buil
 t on first principles. I will present recent calculations of neutron matte
 r and symmetric matter from a range of chiral potentials and highlight nex
 t steps to calculate higher-order terms in the many-body expansion.\n\nhtt
