DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Adriana Pálffy-Buß (University of Wurzburg\, Germa
ny)\n\nNuclear transitions of low energy can couple efficiently to the ato
mic shell in a variety of processes such as internal conversion\, its inve
rse process nuclear excitation by electron capture\, nuclear excitation by
electron transition or electronic bridge. The talk will illustrate a few
such examples involving highly charged ions. First\, the talk will discuss
the current status of nuclear excitation by electron capture experiments
and recent proposals. Second\, it will follow theoretical developments on
employing electronic bridge processes for the driving the nuclear clock tr
ansition in 229-Th. This nucleus possesses the lowest known nuclear transi
tion energy and promises a novel and unprecedently precise nuclear clock.\
