Sterile neutrinos at the eV-scale ?

Recently there is increased interest in sterile neutrinos with masses in the eV region. Various anomalies cannot be explained within the three-flavour neutrino picture and might point towards sterile neutrinos. Those anomalies include results from the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments, as well as the reactor and Gallium anomalies. I will review the status of those anomalies and discuss possible explanations in terms of sterile neutrino oscillations. I argue that it is difficult to reconcile all anomalies within the global data due to tension between appearance and disappearance experiments. However, for some of the anomalies a consistent explanation in terms of eV-scale neutrinos might be possible.
