Precision QCD simulations at the LHC: fixed order versus resummation

This talk reviews recent progress on parton showers and their interplay with higher-order QCD calculations. A method for matching NNLO results to parton showers is presented, and its formal accuracy is discussed. A new algorithm for NLL accurate resummation in high-multiplicity final states is introduced, and its results are compared to parton shower predictions. Finally, prospects for the formal improvement of parton showers beyond the MLL approximation are discussed.
