Description
Tianlai teleconf - 18 May 2017 • Next collaboration meeting organisation (X. Chen/F.Wu) • Collaboration organisation/MOU (P. Timbie/X.Chen) • TAC: pipeline development process (discussion) • Quick look to the data (Santanu Das) • Beam calibration using the sun (A. Stebbins)

Present:

NAOC, CMU, Saclay, Obs. de Paris, Fermilab, UW, Brown

Collaboration Meeting plans:   Dates are now confirmed:

  • Friday 11 August - 21 cm Cosmology Workshop in Urumqi as part of last day of the Astronomy Conference (what is the name of this meeting?)
  • Saturday-Sunday 12-13 August - excursion to Tianlai Observatory (there may be other trips as part of the Conference)
  • Monday-Tuesday 14-15 August - Tianlai/BAORadio collaboration meeting in Urumqi
  • Travelers should make their own flight arrangements to and from Urumqi (arrive Thursday 10 August, depart Weds 16 August).
  • SOC includes Xuelei, Fengquan, & Albert.  They will prepare website and create a list of people to invite. Xuelei suggested several people: Yi Mao (EoR sims) was one, another was Yihua Yan (NAOC, to discuss Chinese Radio Heliograph)) and will email around a list.

Collaboration Organization:  PT reviewed latest, attached, document.  Several changes are suggested:

  • Xuelei recommends adding a third level of membership - 'builder' or 'architect' for those who have heavily invested their time in the construction of the instrument.  These members would have guaranteed authorship on all papers.
  • Xuelei also recommended that the data rights be amended so that full members have access to 'science data' rather than 'raw data' to avoid placing an excessive burden on the collaboration to provide enormous data sets.
  • Jeff recommended that there be a standard, approved slide deck for speakers.
  • Also was suggested that the 1 month warning about publication plans be modified to allow requests for faster decisions.
  • Peter will update the draft for further inspection

TAC:  Albert reviewed the status.  Peter/UW is still working on a cost-effective scheme to get disks to NAOC.  It isn't possible to NAOC to buy disks and then send an invoice to UW. Fengquan suggests setting up an agreement where UW sends funds to NAOC first, from which NAOC purchases the disks.

Quick Look at Data:  Santanu reviewed his attached document, which is about the Sun-NP data from the Tianlai dish array.  We are seeing the sun in cross-correlation channels (but not in autocorrelation).  Fengquan believes the signal is coming from solar RF illuminating the feeds directly, rather than reflecting or diffracting off the dishes.  He points out that when the dishes are pointed closer to the zenith (rather than the NCP), the signal disappears.  Fengquan points out that some of the frequency structure in some channels is coming from a correlator problem that is being/has been fixed.  We need to continue this conversation on a future data analysis call.

Beam calibration with the sun:   Albert reviewed his attached document.
