Quarkonium production near threshold at JLab and EIC: from hidden-charm pentaquarks to the quantum anomalous energy of the proton.

Quarkonium in exclusive electro- and photoproduction provides for a unique probe to the gluonic structure of the nucleon. A new generation of experiments at Jefferson Lab in the 12 GeV era, and at the electron-ion collider (EIC) will use near-threshold quarkonium production to study topics related to the role of the quantum anomalous energy in the origin of the proton mass, the nature of the color Van der Waals force, and the nature of the LHCb hidden-charm pentaquark. I will in particularly focus on the recent results from the Jefferson Lab J/psi-007 experiment, and future opportunities with SoLID at Jefferson Lab and the EIC.
