Booms that light up the radio sky – fast radio bursts

Our understanding of these millisecond duration, extremely energetic radio pulses has vastly improved since their discovery in 2007, but their origin remains an astrophysical puzzle. Despite that, FRBs have already proven to be a promising cosmological probe to study the distribution of ionized baryons in the Universe. In my talk, I will discuss what we know so far about FRBs, and how a revolutionary radio telescope in British Columbia, Canada, the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst Project (CHIME/FRB), is making significant progress in resolving the FRB conundrum.
