The W boson mass is measured using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.7 fb-1 recorded during 2016 by the LHCb experiment.
The W mass is determined from the transverse momentum distribution of muons from W decays.
This analysis serves as pathfinder for future exploitation, with larger datasets, of LHCb’s unique forward rapidity coverage to complement measurements of the W mass by the other LHC experiments.
The result is compared with previous measurements of the W mass and with the predicted value from the global electroweak fit.
