Charmless semileptonic B decays and |V$_{ub}$| measurements with the BABAR detector

Description
Charmless semileptonic B-meson decays provide an excellent probe for the
weak and strong interaction of the b quark. They allow a
determination of
the magnitude of the CKM matrix element $\vert V_{ub}\vert$, and thus provide
important
tests of the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix.

I will give an overview of the various analysis techniques and
present the current status of the experimental measurements of $\vert V_{ub}\vert$
with
inclusive and exclusive semileptonic B decays, highligthing the
precision
measurements with the BABAR detector at PEP-II asymmetric-energy B
Factory
at SLAC.
\noindent
I will discuss how various measurements of semileptonic B decays mesh
together to determine the size of $\vert V_{ub}\vert$, and how such measurements are
made possible through progress in the theory of B decays.
