In this talk, I revisit gauge anomalies from a purely on-shell perspective. I will argue that a failure of anomaly cancellation manifests itself as a breakdown of collinear factorization in scattering amplitudes. Focusing on one-loop five-point amplitudes with graviton exchange, I will show that anomalous theories exhibit singular behavior in collinear limits that cannot be reconciled with standard factorization theorems. From this viewpoint, gravity emerges as a universal and on-shell probe of both abelian and non-abelian gauge anomalies.
