Higgs boson searches at the LHC: from discovery to property measurements

After the observation of a new resonance compatible with the standard model Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC, a new era of particle physics at colliders has emerged. A brief description of some analyses that lead to the discovery will be given and preliminary results on the new resonance properties such as its mass, its couplings and its spin and parity will be shown.
