      The FCC project and its physics opportunities

      This talk will offer an overview of the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project and its ambitious physics program, highlighted as a top priority in the 2020 visionary update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics. The initial phase of the FCC involves the construction of a roughly 90 km circular tunnel equipped with an e+e- collider, leveraging established technologies. This stage, named FCC-ee, will unlock an extensive physics program with center-of-mass energies ranging from the Z resonance to a t-tbar threshold, providing an ideal environment for precision measurements of the four heavy particles of the Standard Model - the Higgs boson, W and Z bosons, and the top-quark. Its high luminosity, exquisite energy calibration, and the capability for monochromatisation present a wealth of opportunities for observing tiny violations of established symmetries, conducting precision searches, and exploring the dark sector with the potential discovery of feebly coupled particles. Additionally, FCC-ee offers substantial prospects for direct searches for new particles, including dark matter. After this phase, the tunnel will be repurposed for a proton-proton collider (FCC-pp) that can gather data in the range of 100 TeV, further enriching the program of measurements and potential discoveries. Both the accelerator and physics aspects of the FCC project will be presented in this talk, with a focus on the e+e- stage and its associated experimental and theoretical challenges.
