Bulletin #2 (posted 17/03)

Dear participant,
Please read carefully the following additional practical informations.
We will post more informations before the school starts.

Agenda

The scientific timetable is now online:
    https://indico.ijclab.in2p3.fr/event/7633/
Lectures will start on Monday 28 March at 14:00, and end on Friday 08 April at 13:00.

  • The first lectures will be "introductory courses", as usually done in ISAPP schools. During the school, there will also be two courses on statistical methods.
  • Three short hands-on sessions are scheduled, in tight connection with the lectures. For these sessions, access to a jupyterhub server will be provided during the school, and guidelines will be given if specific software is to be installed beforehand on your own laptop.
  • There will be sessions dedicated to student talks. Please prepare your presentation before arriving at the school! Each presentation should last 5 minutes at most (~ 3 slides as a guideline), focusing on your research topic. Your slides will not be posted on the web. The schedule of these student presentations may be modified, so please consider you may give your presentation starting from Tuesday 29 March on.
  • As a part of this school, there will be a public lecture on JWST, given in French, on Tuesday 29 March at 19:00. Of course, attending this lecture is not mandatory.
  • On Friday 1 April in the afternoon, we will visit the NectarCAM facility, and other stuff, at the nearby CEA laboratory. We will join CEA by bus, and to enter the place you will need to have your ID or passport with you (NOT a driving licence).

Various practical informations

  • Maps to join Residhome and IPa, with GPS coordinates are available on the IPa's website, see in particular:

    https://www.institut-pascal.universite-paris-saclay.fr/node/580709
    https://www.myresidhome.com/bures-sur-yvette/residhome-bures-la-guyonnerie/apparthotel-residence-hoteliere.html
In summary:
1) To join IPa from Paris, we recommend the train line RER B down to "Orsay-Ville", then Bus line 7 up to "De Broglie".
2) To join Residhome from Paris, RER B down to "Bures-sur-Yvette", then 1.0 km by foot.
3) To join IPa from Residhome, this is a ~20 min walk on a path going up in the forest. There is also a bus option (joining "Orsay-Ville"), but it is longer and also requires to walk first.
Please note that, for the forest trail, possibly wet, we recommand you bring adapted shoes!

  • Arrival and first day: If you stay at Residhome during the night of Sunday 27 March, you will join Residhome on your own. You may join IPa on Monday morning at any time starting at 9:00. If you travel on Monday morning, please join IPa directly (with your luggage): expect a transportation time of up to ~2 hr from Charles-de-Gaulle airport to the Institute. You will be able to use offices at your arrival at IPa. A lunch buffet will be given at IPa, before the first lecture at 14:00. For this first day, a bus will be there to bring people with luggages from IPa to Residhome in the evening.
  • During the whole course of the school, shared offices will be at your disposal at the Institut Pascal.
  • Covid rules: recently, restrictions in France were significantly reduced. A vaccine pass is no longer required to enter Institut Pascal, restaurants, etc. Even the mask is not mandatory anymore in certain closed spaces (it is still mandatory eg. in public transports). However:
  1. Sanitary restrictions / conditions still apply to enter France from your own country (vaccine pass or test)! Please check very carefully the conditions that apply to enter France from your country, this is your responsibility!
  2. Covid is still actively circulating, with cases rising again in France and other European countries. We therefore very highly recommend that you apply reasonable physical distancing measures, in particular please wear a mask inside IPa whenever it is possible. And test/isolate in case of doubt!
