Description
ChatGPT, a Large Language Model based chatbot with astonishing capabilities, has become very popular on social networks in particular. But beyond amazing success and dismal failure anecdotes, to what extent can ChatGPT (or Bing) be used realistically in the physicist's daily life?
The experiments of twenty particle physicists have been collected as user stories. They are summarised in this talk which will assess what can or cannot be expected from these tools and their relative merit.
Whether distilling textbook knowledge or cutting-edge science as we do it, whether summarizing papers or writing project abstracts, whether discussing physics, whether writing a complete paper or just its fine-grained structure, whether writing code snippets or helping understand arcane code in an unknown language.
Examples will be given with fully reproducible prompts when possible.
The answer to the leading question is "definitely yes", but with a clear understanding of the limitations of these tools and how they could evolve.
